Yesterday, as Shawn went on his Arizona Science Center field trip for #602 today in Phoenix, I challenged myself to have a “Brain Growth” trip.
To ward off dementia, it’s just as important for me to stretch my mind and brain capacity as it is for him to experience new things, so I look at these kid ‘field trips’ in a new light.
For every physical science station Shawn interacted with, I tried to learn something new, but then I took the concept further and moved it from the physical observation to a spiritual/wisdom connection. I tried to think of the life lesson this station was teaching me.

👤✨What’s Inside of You?: We are made up of the same elements that are in the stars. We should not only be in wonder when we look at the celestial skies, but the skies should be in wonder when they see the possibility of OUR own brain and imagination. We are star dust (proven by science)!

✈️Bernoulli’s Principal of Flight: When you are surrounded on all sides by what really matters, like love and purpose, this will keep you afloat.

😴Brain Breaks: Do them and treat them with the high importance they deserve. You get out what you put in. Put in rest.

💜Heartbeat Station: Your heartbeat will change tempo depending on what’s going on in your life and your energy levels. The people who support you will walk in step with you. You’ll synchronize together to get the job done.
❤️Also, his inner heartbeat was put on display for everyone to observe. Can people hear what makes your heartbeat? Do we know what you stand for?

🪢Tug-O-War (one side required more energy to pull though both sides looked identical):
Though things on the outside may look equal, some people have to exert more energy, do more and be more just to stay at status quo. Nevertheless, keep moving forward. In the end, we need to find ways to be more collaborative than competitive.
Let’s put our energy together!

🧠Brain Station of Wonder:
The expansiveness of our brain knows no limits. What will drive our brains’ ability to create, innovate and solve these massive problems will all start with wonder.
What did you wonder today?

🍎Brain Food: To think and create well, you have to eat well. Period.
So those are my life lessons I got from the museum stations. No longer can I let these moments of brain stimulation pass me by. The elderly woman inside of me is counting on me to make every moment matter in my midlife. We adults need these ‘field trips’ just as much as our children.
When is your next ‘Brain Growth’ trip?
